About Elections 2014

In the 2014 Senate elections conducted during February and March, UWA achieved a participation rate of 5.68% with over 4,260 votes being cast - an increase of 342.5% over the previous year's elections.
This is significantly above the participation rate of 4.0% achieved in similar elections by the Universities of Melbourne and Adelaide, and compares favourably with the top performer, the University of Sydney, which held elections for five vacant positions on their Senate during 2013 and achieved a response rate of 6.3%.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this excellent result by voting in the election and ensuring that graduates were able to exercise their democratic right to choose three members of the UWA Senate.

Both Hilary Silbert and Simon Dawkins were re-elected for a further term on Senate. For Quang Ly it will be his first term as a member of Senate.

Members of Convocation Council

The results of the elections for eight positions on Convocation Council were announced at Convocation's First Ordinary Meeting for 2014.

Each year, elections are held for seven of the 21 members of Convocation Council. This year an additional position was included due to the mid-term resignation of another Councillor due to ill-health.
Ten candidates nominated for the eight vacant positions and after a postal vote of the 75,000 graduates eligible to vote was completed, the following candidates were declared elected to the Council for a three year term:

  • Felicity Farrelly
  • Jonathan Strauss
  • James Paparo
  • Cliff Gillam
  • Colin Campbell-Fraser
  • Pauline Tremlett
  • Lesley Cala

In addition, the following candidate was elected for one year to complete the term of the Councillor that resigned before completing her term:

  • Pierre Yang

Both Felicity Farrelly and Pierre Yang were elected for their first term on Convocation Council. The Warden of Convocation thanked retiring Councillors Dr Fran Pesich and Terrence Cheong for their service to Convocation.
